Their son George Bertrand was listed as living with them.6 George Washington Harrop was a druggist.2 He and Frances Margaret Brown appeared on the 1900 Federal census of Manhattan, Riley County, Kansas, at 501 Pierre Street, enumerated 2 June 1900. Their son George Bertrand was listed as living with them. Along with daughter-in-law Florence Fox, granddaughter Esther and mother-in-law Amanda Brown, age 68.2

     James's birth date is unknown. James may have been born in England.2 He was the son of James Prime and Mary (?)2,3 James Prime was baptized on 17 April 1670 in Milford, Connecticut Colony. Based on the date of his first marriage, he was not an infant when he was baptized.1,3 He married as his first wife Martha Merwin, daughter of Miles Merwin and Sarah (?), on 20 September 1684 in Milford, Connecticut Colony.3,4 James Prime married as his second wife Sarah (?) on 30 January 1694 in Milford, Connecticut Colony.3 James Prime died on 18 July 1736 in Milford, Connecticut Colony. Florence Fox Harrop writes that he was reported to have been 103 years old when he died which would have made his birthdate 1633 and his birthplace in England as his father was not found in America until 1638.1,2
     He and Sarah (?) had ten children.2 James Prime became a freeman in 1713 in Milford, Connecticut Colony.2

     Comdr. Charles John McDougall was born on 30 January 1837 in New York.1,2 He was the son of Admiral David Stockton McDougall and Caroline M. Sterrett.1 Comdr. Charles John McDougall married Katherine Coffee on 22 August 1866 in Oakland, Alameda County, California.3 Comdr. Charles John McDougall died on 28 March 1881 in Cape Mendocino, Mendocino County, California, at age 44.4,5 He was buried in Mare Island Cemetery, Mare Island, Solano County, California.5
     He appeared on the 1860 Federal census of U.S. Navy Shipyard, Mare Island, Vallejo, Solano County, California, in the household of his parents Admiral David Stockton McDougall and Caroline M. Sterrett.2 He died while serving with the lighthouse service; drowned when he fell in the water with payroll of gold coins tied to his belt and was dragged down. His wife continued to keep the lighthouse which was on the southern end of Mare Island until 1916.6

Katherine Coffee1

     Katherine Coffee was born on 15 June 1842 in Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama.1 She married Comdr. Charles John McDougall, son of Admiral David Stockton McDougall and Caroline M. Sterrett, on 22 August 1866 in Oakland, Alameda County, California.2 Katherine Coffee died in 1932.3 She was buried in Mare Island Cemetery, Mare Island, Solano County, California.3
     Katherine was also known as Kate. She was keeper of the Mare Island Light. Her husband John drowned in a storm and left Kate with a pension of 50.00 per month. "McDougal's friends at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, Calif., arranged to have her appointed keeper of the nearby Mare Island Lignt. She lived there for 25 years, raising her children with the help of donated schoolbooks and tending the residence with the help of a Chinese-American cook. During most of the year her only contact with the outside worlde was via telephone line to the naval shipyard, whose officers set up the poles and strung the wire for her as a Christmas present." between 1881 and 1916.4 She appeared on the 1900 Federal census of Vallejo, Solano County, California, enumerated 1 June 1900. Her children Kate Coffee and Caroline Marian were listed as living with her. Her son-in-law Lt. Cmdr. Miles Carpenter Gorgas and grand-daughter Mary Gorgas was also in the household.5 Katherine Coffee appeared on the 1910 Federal census of Vallejo, Solano County, California, enumerated 19 April 1910. Her daughter Kate Coffee was listed as living with her, Her son-in-law Lt. Cmdr. Miles Carpenter Gorgas and grand-daughter Mary Gorgas was also living with her.6 Katherine Coffee appeared on the 1920 Federal census of San Diego, in San Diego County, California, in the household of her daugher Caroline Marian McDougall.7
