     Walter Butler was born in 1752 in Johnstown, Province of New York, now Fulton County.¹ He was the son of John Butler and Catherine Brat.¹ Walter Butler died on 20 October 1781 in Mohawk Valley, Westmoreland County, Connecticut, now Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in a skirmish with patriot troops led by Marinus Willett.¹
     Walter studied law and became a lawyer in Albany, Province of New York. At the beginning of the American Revolution, he escaped to Canada with other Torries. When his father formed Butler's Rangers, he joined the unit and was commissioned as a Captiain. In 1778, he led a company of Torries and Indians in the raid that became known as the Cherry Valley Massacre.¹

     William had 9 children: Richard, William, Rowland, George, Alicia, Winefreda, Thomas, Anne and Dionisia. This Thomas is often thought to be the Thomas Hale who immigrated to Newbury, MA in 1635.      Rose Bond was born circa 1570 in Kings Walden, Hertfordshire, England, (estimated).¹ She was the daughter of George Bond and Winifred Leigh. Rose Bond married William Hale, son of Richard Hale and Mary Lambert, before 1596 in Herefordshire, England.^1,2 Rose Bond died on 31 July 1648.¹
