     Joel Bassett was born on 16 October 1783 in East Montpelier, Republic of Vermont, now Washington County.2 He was the son of Jared Bassett and Sarah Goodyear.1,2 Joel Bassett married as his first wife Ruby Metcalf, daughter of Elias Metcalf and Mary Chamberlain, on 16 June 1806 in Montpelier, Caledonia County, Vermont, now Washington County.3 Joel Bassett married as his second wife Flavia Hubbard on 16 October 1828 She was the widow of Erastus Barber.4,5 Joel Bassett died on 21 February 1859 in East Montpelier, Washington County, Vermont, at age 75.6,7 He was buried in East Montpelier Village Cemetery, East Montpelier, Washington County, Vermont.6,8
     He appeared on the census of 1810 in Marshfield, Caledonia County, Vermont, now Washington County.
